Google Chrome - one box rules it all? Google domination

oh oh, with all the buzz about the release of google chrome, i tried it. and i must say. google now equals the internet.

I remembered reading this article at readwriteweb about how most internet users nowadays don’t know how to use the address bar. and in the discussion of the article, some readers suggest possiblity that in the future, address bar and search box will become one. ‘one box rules it all’

Now, looks like Google has picked it up. And i think by default, it eliminates the role of address bar. it IS a search bar. a Google search bar. And this means practically every address and queries we enter in ‘the box’ will first go through google’s data center, then we get redirected to the actual landing page.
it.is.a.creepy.concept.
i think it has been going on with google toolbar. but this is more explicit and at your face.
i admire the usability folks at google. they are the master behind all google’s simple, flow-inducing, intuitive design.
ajaxify everything, javascript rules at the web2.0. Not a single incompability problem now :p

wah, there is an option for ’stat for nerds’. haha…
i like how google design stuff. it doesn’t throw everything at your face. but its complexity unfolds as the user explores. oops, almost typed that as exploded :p
it can be accessed directly by typing about:memory on ‘the box’

Features:
speed dial yang mirip opera
tabbed interfacenya mirip IE
goodies for web developer, this one is nice. like i mentioned before, hidden complexities

Ribet euy

Geblek, gw saking banyak account di web, sampai lupa apa2 aja yang gw miliki. Nih kan lagi nyoba scribeFire, (which is AWESOME), nah gw inget gw ada account Tumblr. Seperti biasa, gw login ke account dummy gw, si ‘z’, nah masu. Gw mikir, ah ya udah, sekalian bikin utk account tre gw. Nah pas gw pilih URL, gw coba dulu ‘theresia’. Eh katanya not available. Ya udah. hiks2 agak kecewa. tp apa boleh buat. Jadi gw pilih URL yang lain, yaitu tre (kemungkinan availablenya lebih kecil sih, tp nyoba2 aja hahaha…). Eh tiba2 gw logged in ke tumblr. Nah lho? Ternyata gw udah pernah bikin account utk si tre. Dan URL theresia.tumblr.com itu punya gw sendiri! wkwkwk…. konyol ah.

Ok deh. anyway, firescribe is really awesome. I hope i can post more blog entries with the aid of this handy tool.

Default password for Mantis bug tracker

Tried Mantis bugtracker today, and got stuck after installation because I don’t know the default password for the ‘administrator’ account. The Mantis release did not even include an offline documentation about it. Did a little googling, found out that the default password is: “root”

All working now.

In the search, stumbled upon a security-related site, http://cirt.net. Why? Because it contains a subpage with default passwords for a pretty long list of computer product vendors (quoted:374 vendors, 1715 passwords). It also has a web scanner product, Nikto, that can scan for vulnerability etc. Will give it a try.

entry datar deh

Telah mempelajari banyak hal. menyenangkan.

Cara menambahkan subdomain dengan cpanel

Tujuan

Dari domain seperti ini: hantuinternet.com

Anda ingin membuat subdomain seperti ini:

Requirement / yg di-cover:

ii-subdo_avail.jpg

Cara:

Tanpa banyak basa basi, pertama-tama pilih menu subdomain:

0menuawal.jpg

Hostingan dunkk….

Baru bulan ke-2 mencoba hostingan intl ini. Eh…. mau gulung tikar. Kita lihat saja perkembangannya sampai tanggal 8. Padahal udah pewe, udah menyiapkan segala sesuatu (isn’t that all i have been doing all this time? c’moonn…) utk ‘mulai’ produktif. Dan sekarang gw kembali mendapatkan alasan utk menunda produktifitas itu.

I know nothing, this sinful proud and easily-satisfied mind.

Information overload and procrastination

….

testing a text editor called the “Dark room”

wow. what a great concept. feels like i am actually all alone with my mind. especially with ‘frozen twilight’ by God is an Astronaut playing at the background. lol.
anyway….

i think i am addicted to knowledge. not exactly “obtaining” knowledge, but rather “collecting” knowledge.

i love the internet because it’s so easy to get practically ANY information i want. and i can get them NOW.
i could go from one subject to another, just browsing around and downloading stuff to my computer for ‘later viewing’ because i don’t have an always-on internet connection.

But what i said to be ‘later viewing’ most probably means ‘never’. lol.

I will end up with a huge pile of files that I probably can never finish reading for the rest of my life.

I only collect stuff on subjects that interest me. Unfortunately (naah.. can’t really say it. i enjoy it very much), what i like is internet and technology-related material.

and those are ABUNDANT here on the web. not to mention the constant growth and innovation that are just yummy for geeks’ adrenaline.

and it’s addicting.

One sample:
i was in the middle of coding a web project when I decided that I am going to implement a specific feature. i jumped online to get some inspiration, best practices and common issues attached to the feature.

I also browse for reusable codes for me to adapt to my project. Perhaps from some open source projects repositories or similar projects where i can guess and adapt the algorithm / method to my project.

I am just lazy, thinking:
“heck, why should i solve and code something from scratch just because i can? there MUST be someone out there who had thought of the same problem and solved it into some type of elegant and reusable code. If I’m lucky, I can even get some friendly advice and reference on the feature.”

One problem leads to the other, one code snippet refers to another, one blog post links to 10 other, i will find myself ’stuck’ online, browsing and harvesting delicious solutions — solutions for problems i don’t actually have at the first place, the one that led me online.

I used to like to think of it as a learning curve, saying things like ‘well, at least now I know what to do when THAT happens’, or “these stuff will be useful someday, good to learn them now”

But it is _distracting_ and i ended up losing focus on the main project. Then, another day has passed.
self-discipline, come here will ya?
